Cole Brennan, MSW, MTS, LCSW

I found my way into the mental health field because I have always loved engaging deeply with people, grappling with their complex and often painful emotions and experiences, and being able to offer new perspectives and creative options to help each person tap into their internal wisdom and healing potential.

While I love being able to sit with someone and talk about everything they have going on, I’ve also found that the traditional model of therapy doesn’t fit everyone’s preferences or level of comfort. Does sitting on a couch for an hour sound intimidating or uncomfortable? We can arrange a walk-and-talk in nature instead. Does your teen/preteen want to toss a ball around or play a board game while talking to someone about the unique challenges they face as a young person in the world today? I like to keep flexibility, creativity, and the individual needs of my clients front and center in my approach.

I put effort into examining my biases and blind spots, and working to be a good ally to folks of color and people of all historically disenfranchised identities. I own what mistakes I make and use them to learn to do better.

As of June, 2023, I began working as a clinician at Ellie Mental Health, and now offer in-person appointments at our office in NW Lakewood, right by the Colorado Mills mall, and online through our HIPAA-compliant client management platform.

A little more about me:

  • I obtained my Master of Social Work alongside my Master of Theological Studies from Boston University in 2019 after over a decade working as a bicycle mechanic, outdoor educator, and in various other fields.

  • I trained as an outpatient therapist within an LGBTQ+ community health organization, working with primarily LGBTQ+ adults with a wide variety of mental health needs.

  • I worked for four years within public schools as a school social worker, focusing on kids with disabilities, crisis intervention and the social and emotional needs of very diverse groups of young people.

  • I trained for 8 months as an interfaith hospital chaplain intern, companioning patients and families in their journeys around grief, aging, fear, pain, and hope.

  • When not working, I can usually be found spending time with my partner, our two human pups (ages 5 and 3) and our two canine pups, doing home, gardening or woodworking projects, spending time outside, or working on learning Spanish.

If you've been struggling with not feeling as happy and fulfilled as you want to be and could use someone to talk to as you navigate it all, know that you're not alone. I encourage you to reach out to schedule a free consultation to find out if the connection feels right. I truly look forward to hearing from you!
